Hello, I'm Alexandra

Formerly a senior civil servant and charity leader during a 15-year career in London, I have faced a range of life storms. PTSD from a traumatic hospital stay. Devastating long-term insomnia. Two forms of OCD. Chronic anxiety. Losing my mother too soon to cancer. Very tough work situations. And overshadowing all of this was the presence of an emotionally abusive and alcoholic father.

I kept showing up at work and achieving successes and promotions, but the constant effort required to do this in the face of my life storms took a big toll on my health.

Like many others, my instinct was to keep pushing through, but over time I discovered my limits, and found better ways to honour my needs as I journeyed through my storm.

I began to notice a pattern in how we can grow, even after we’ve experienced such devastation. I built my sense of inner calm and confidence, and began to discern the true calling on my life.

I left my London career behind and founded Damsel Not In Distress in 2023 to empower people to Sing After The Storm, that is to thrive after big life challenges.

What people say about my work

"I read Alexandra’s book and immediately felt that she could help me.

She listens, she understands, and provides really useful tools and advice.

I’m gradually finding through the courses and the 1-2-1 sessions that I am dealing with past trauma, and am now beginning to heal from these. I’m rediscovering my self worth and regaining control over my life. Word can’t express my gratitude!"

"By sharing her story so openly, and so reflectively, Alexandra invites us into her life, and gives us openings and possibilities to ask questions and find answers in our own lives and situations.

Reading the book feels like sitting with a friend and talking it over; the kind of "oh its not just me" moments, added onto the "I hadn't thought of that, but now you say it" experiences make reading this a friendly, encouraging and empowering experience."

"Working with Alexandra was an unexpectedly comforting journey right from our initial interactions...

The outcome of working with Alexandra has been transformative. I've acquired a toolbox of resources to navigate through moments of anxiety or stress. With her guidance, I've overcome barriers I once deemed insurmountable, and now possess strategies to confront challenging situations with confidence."
